Mosevic Eyewear Case Study

Mosevic Eyewear Case Study

Mosevic Eyewear, a unique and pioneering brand known for its handcrafted denim sunglasses, began facing production delays due to outsourcing key processes like cutting and engraving.

With the introduction of HPC Laser’s LS3060 Pro laser cutter, they brought these tasks in-house: reducing lead times, cutting costs, and gaining the creative flexibility that makes their brand stand out.

This case study explores how HPC and their LS3060 helped Mosevic improve efficiency, precision, product quality, and content creation.

The Founder

Mosevic Eyewear was founded by Jack over a decade ago in Cornwall, UK. The company designs and creates sunglasses from resin-infused denim.

Initially an experimental project, Jack began playing around with durable but lightweight materials when he was working on creating his own kiteboard. This led him to explore the idea of infusing fabrics like denim with resin. Today, Mosevic has grown into a successful business that ships globally and captivates a large audience of over 200,000 followers online.

Their Challenges

Despite building up a significant internet following, and growing from Jack’s shared kitchen, to a Truro workshop and dedicated full-time team, Mosevic still faced challenges in their production process. Before bringing laser cutting in-house, Mosevic relied on outsourcing the cutting and engraving of their sunglasses frames.

This dependency caused several challenges:

Delays: Outsourcing required planning weeks in advance. Any mistake or miscalculation led to further delays, which affected both production and lead times for customers.

High costs: Outsourcing added to the production costs, reducing profitability and flexibility.

Limited Innovation: The need to work around external suppliers limited Mosevic’s ability to test new ideas or iterate designs quickly.

As demand for their handmade sunglasses grew, the need to streamline production became crucial to maintain quality and ensure efficient operations.

Our Solution

Jack turned to HPC Laser to help solve these production challenges. After discussing Mosevic’s needs, HPC recommended the LS3060 Pro laser cutter, a CO2 laser cutting machine with a freestanding design, a small-to-medium bed size, and an upgraded 60W laser tube for added versatility. The LS3060 was paired with LightBurn software, giving the ability to store designs and settings for accuracy and repeatability.

This in-house CO2 laser cutter allowed the team to eliminate outsourcing, produce parts on demand, and experiment with designs and content more freely. With this machine, Mosevic gained control over the entire production process, from cutting to engraving intricate details.

When HPC’s engineer visited Mosevic, they provided comprehensive, hands-on training, which enabled Jack to quickly get comfortable with the machine and the software. On the very first day of installation, Jack was able to produce a fully finished product using the LS3060.

The machine’s intuitive interface, combined with the features of LightBurn, allowed for a quick setup and easy design adjustments. HPC’s lifetime technical support and a one-year warranty further reassured Mosevic of HPC’s long-term reliability. As a result, the introduction of the LS3060 Pro laser cutter revolutionised Mosevic’s production. The company saw immediate benefits:

Reduced lead times: By cutting and engraving parts in-house, production times were significantly shortened and costs were reduced. The team could create or replace parts on the same day, streamlining operations and increasing overall efficiency.

Improved quality: Jack explained, “We realised we could get a better result by optimising the settings, better than what we were getting from outsourcing.” This in-house control over production led to higher-quality products and faster turnaround times.

Enhanced creativity: The laser cutter gave Mosevic the flexibility to experiment with new designs and ideas without worrying about external constraints or delays. With the built-in material library, repeat tasks became quicker and more efficient, saving even more time.

Content opportunities: Unbridled access to a laser cutter means that Jack can use it to create more content. Not only can he now include this part of the production process in videos, but he can also laser-cut whenever he needs to produce the quirky content he is becoming known for.

Mosevic Eyewearʼs decision to bring laser cutting in-house with the HPC LS3060 Pro has been a game-changer. The investment in HPCʼs technology has set Mosevic up for continued growth and innovation.
