When the Machine Wasn’t the Problem!

When the Machine Wasn’t the Problem!

Six years of frustration came to an end with a single visit from an HPC Laser service engineer. Like many manufacturers experiencing poor cut quality, unreliable performance, and costly production delays, the customer believed their laser cutter had simply reached the end of its useful life and was ready to be replaced.

However, the problem wasn’t the machine at all. After inspecting the customer’s Bodor fibre laser, our engineer quickly identified that it had never been correctly installed, calibrated, or optimised. The machine had been underperforming from the very beginning, not because of a design fault, but because it had never been set up to operate as intended.

According to the customer, problems started almost immediately after the original installation. Despite investing in advanced laser cutting technology, they were left with inconsistent cutting quality, frequent production interruptions, and a machine they could never fully rely on. To make matters worse, repeated service issues were never properly resolved, leaving them to believe that poor performance was simply something they had to accept.

For six years, the customer thought they owned a disappointing laser cutter. In reality, they owned a machine that had never been given the opportunity to perform at its full potential.

The HPC Laser Difference

Following several issues that were unresolved by their current service provider, the customer asked HPC Laser to inspect their existing machine. Our experienced service engineer quickly identified significant setup and calibration issues that should have been corrected during the original installation.

After correcting some installation issues, servicing and recalibrating the machine, the results were immediate. A machine that had struggled to produce consistent, high-quality cuts was now running full production programmes with outstanding precision and reliability.

The customer’s verdict said it all: “The machine has never run as well since it was first installed.” No major rebuild or expensive replacement parts were required, just the expertise to set the machine up correctly.

Installation Is Only the Beginning

This experience reinforces what HPC Laser has always believed: buying a laser cutter is only part of the investment. The quality of the installation, calibration, commissioning, and operator training determines whether a machine delivers years of reliable productivity or ongoing frustration

Steve Cockerham – Managing Director, HPC Laser told us:

“At HPC Laser, installation marks the start of a long-term partnership. Every machine is carefully installed, fully calibrated, and supported with comprehensive operator training to ensure customers achieve maximum performance from day one. Our commitment continues long after installation through responsive, expert after-sales support that keeps customers productive.”

Engineering Expertise That Makes the Difference

The customer, who had originally been prepared to replace their machine, had lost confidence in their existing supplier. Following the successful outcome and impressed by our engineering expertise, they chose to place an order with HPC Laser for two new laser cutting machines.

Steve added:

“For us, this is more than a successful service call. It’s proof that expert installation, training, and ongoing support are just as important as the machine itself. When those foundations are in place, customers don’t just invest in a laser, they invest in performance, productivity, and a trusted long-term partner.”
